Snelly Balboa – Wednesday 27th January – CSC Day Three
Up and out bright an early for our last day with the team at CSC.
The clinic was alive with people waiting to be seen, and the medical team were doing their rounds by 8.30am, checking on the patients in the two wards.
The priority today was to go and visit the CASC (Cambodia Acid Survivor Charity) house again, but this time with Dr Jim, his daughter Lara, his cousin Anne and his friend Chip, all of who were in town helping out at the surgical centre.
We arrived shortly after 11am and Ian and I were quite amazed at how much progress had been made in the two days since we were there last. You can see from the pictures below that a lot of work had been done on the second house, and that the first house is pretty much finished. (That’s Dr Jim in the white t-shirt, and Anne in the yellow shirt)
The newest arrivals at the house, the 11 puppies, were a favourite with the girls, and Ian! Two separate dogs, each of whom had undergone surgery to prevent new puppies being made, had 11 puppies between them a month or so after the operation… I guess that vet won’t be getting much business when word gets out!
And here’s a half-an-Ivy with the puppy who was getting tired of being picked up!
After we’d toured the grounds, we went into the house where we were greeted with the piano genius of one of the acid burn survivors playing his piano. This is the same gentleman was the one we met last August who sang for us – he has an incredible talent for singing and playing the piano, and I wouldn’t rule out him being a contender if there is ever an X Factor Cambodia!!
In the evening, Dr Jim and Kanya had kindly put on a fantastic spread where all of the visitors joined them at his house for a lovely party, and a wonderful end to yet another inspiring and humbling visit.
There is a documentary being screened on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st that will present an insight into the amazing work that goes on in CSC entitled Cambodia Surgical Ward. Click Here for show times in your region.
